Could you board the plane with only a carry-on packed with 7 days of underwear? That’s what Jessi Arrington of Luck So and So did. I can’t believe I’m just now discovering this video of her talk at TED. I hate to brag, but I feel pretty confident that I could pull this off too!
Yay! I made it through my juice fast
10 days. I was determined to finish, but I did doubt my willpower many times. There was lots of temptation along the way. Fried chicken, burgers, donuts, pizza. I didn’t cave. Not even a little.
The Benefits
1.) More energy
2.) less aches and pains
3.) lost 10 pounds and generally feel light on my feet
4.) Craving healthy foods now
5.) My hair feels softer
The past 3 days I’ve been eating a high raw diet. This will be my diet for the rest of my life. It’s when I feel best. I have a lot more weight to lose and a long way to go in getting healthy, but I’m glad I started.
I’m always discovering. I want to share that with all of you who read this blog. I’m so random, but there’s a method to my madness. Anyway, I’ve been wearing my hair natural for about 12 years(as long as I’ve been married), but I’m still learning and re-learning how to care for my hair. I love Alicia James’ youtube channel and blog. She really cares for her hair and the results are amazing. I had to post this video of her Bohemian style. Will definitely be trying this out
In fashion, here is my latest thrift haul from a yard sale yesterday. I couldn’t believe the prices. And this is why I hardly buy anything brand new.
- Skirt Jaclyn Smith $1.00
- Blouse That’s Me! $1.00
- Knit Sweater Fever $1.00
I tried to get some closeup pictures, but non did this amazing blouse justice. I’ll just have to do an outfit post when I wear it. This blouse is amazing. If I see ruffles, I’m in. And if I see ruffles and plaid-well, let’s just say this was a no-brainer for me. And green is my favorite color. This is a very light knit sweater. I think it would look great with the belt and a maxi dress.
Food for the soul: Juice fasting and feasting
Yesterday, I officially started my 10 day juice fast. Only fresh juice for 10 days. My goal: To cleanse and continue with a new lifestyle of mostly fresh raw food. I have to be honest, I didn’t think it would be this hard. I’m craving everything I see, even things I don’t normally eat. I’m not stranger to juicing. I’ve been doing it for 2 months just about everyday. But there’s nothing like replacing all your meals with juice. Boy, do I miss my midnight snacks!
Now at the end of day 2 I’m actually feeling pretty energetic. I’m chronicling my journey on youtube. Please feel free to ask questions, share and especially offer support- I’m going to need it.
Since I know a little about juicing now, I thought I’d share some tips for anyone thinking of starting
1. Start slowly. Just replace one meal and work your way up
2. If you’re not used to juicing greens, start with spinach. Spinach has a very mild bearable flavor compared to kale which is very strong
3. Make 2 or 3 juices at a time and store for later in the day. You can store in the fridge for up to 24 hours
4. Allow a juice to settle for a few minutes before you decide you don’t like it. Once it settles, the true flavor comes out more.
5. Drink plenty of water
Ode to the Afro
I’ve gone to Carolina in my mind
It’s been almost two months and I’m settling into my new surroundings here in North Carolina. We live in a small town and although I’ve visited here many times, living here is totally different. I’m actually not missing city life as much as I thought I would. I guess I’m in the honeymoon stage and still fascinated by what is ‘normal’ out here. Two weeks ago, I was outside talking to the neighbors and this guy road by. I know he thinks I must have never even been to the zoo the way I carried on. He was nice enough to allow me to take pictures of him. And yes, he lives on a farm. Can we talk about his look? a true cowboy!
You can drive for long stretches out here and only see dilapidated houses and farm land. Soon, I will take some time to stop and explore some more with my camera.
Style-wise, I’ve been in a little of a slump. It seems my looks aren’t coming together the way I’d like. Not surprising, though. Artistically, I’ve been kind of stagnant too. I’ll be browsing online for inspiration and going back to the drawing board. What about you guys? Do you ever get into a style rut? What do you do to pull yourself out?
The end of an era
Finally! another outfit post. It’s been ages and I’ve been thinking a lot about my little space in Cyberville.
It seems lately my life is filled with changes. I guess that’s life, though. I’m moving from Atlanta to North Carolina. We’ve been here for 9 years. During this time I’ve had a love/hate relationship with this city, but I’ve made some amazing friends that I will have for the rest of my life.
My baby boy will be 3 next month and we’re in the throes of potty training. He’s gotten taller and much slimmer than the Michilen man look he used to have. Raising children is the ultimate exercise in letting go. I miss the baby, but the little boy is developing into an amazing person.
Saying goodbye to November with it’s range of 30-70 degree weather and palette of umber, crimson, and daffodil. Winter will bring more outfit possibilities.
What I’m wearing:
Teal trench coat, $7.00 thrifted
Orange blazer, $3.00 thrifted
Polka dot skirt $8.00 thrifted
Suede ankle boots $7.00 thrifted
Jewelry was given to me
If the shoe fits
I have to say that I’m truly humbled by my style blogging experience. At first, I was afraid to put myself ”out there”, but it has been a learning experience so far, and I just wanted to let you all know that it means the world to me when you stop by and leave a comment. I have many goals for this blog and lots of ideas swirling around my brain. I’m learning as I go, even about my own personal style. My family and I have been battling colds and viruses for the last couple of weeks, so my attention has been somewhat diverted and I just felt so yucky. More outfit posts and my two cents on bohemian expression are to come. I wanted to share with you one of my other passions, which is art. I’ve been drawing and making things all my life. One of the things I really enjoy drawing are shoes. Here are some of my illustrations:

Julieta Venegas – Otra Cosa
In the Summer of 2007 I would listen to Viva Atlanta on my 20 minute drive to my job in Alpharetta. That’s when I first heard Julieta Venegas’ Eres para mí. I was immediately hooked. Her soft unassuming style and her poetic lyrics make her music so easy to listen to. My new friend Spotify has introduced me to her latest album released in 2010, Otra Cosa and I’m loving it. Especially, the songUn Lugar
Tribal
When you live in Atlanta, in the Fall and the Winter it’s all about layers. And expect to remove some of those layers throughout the day because It could easily go from 35 degrees to 65 degrees in the same day. Today I had tights under my leggings and was bundled up in a scarf trying to be cute in new my teal vintage trench(Will show up in future photos), but I didn’t think to wear gloves and my digits were freezing. What happened to my New York blood?
Last weekend, this is what I wore and I was quite comfortable. This outfit might be the last that I wear without tights for the next few months.
I literally bought this little dress off a truck. An SUV, to be exact. This lady was selling clothes out of her car and I got this for $2.00!. I’m actually wearing it backwards because the front collar is very low and I think it looks better this way. One of my latest thrift store finds, this grey cardigan by The Gap has become one of my staples. The little ballet flats are from the thrift store too. Only $1.99. Have you tried out tribal patterns this Fall?
